[edit] What is SSL?

Most web servers, such as Apache, and many other services like e-mail can use the 128/256-bit secured and encrypted SSL protocol.

You will need a SSL certificate to make it work.

You can get a free of charge SSL certificate which can be installed in a few minutes from several services on the net. All of these have one thing in common: They are not installed by default by most browsers, so the visitor is required to download and install the providers root cerfiticate or accept your certificate manually to make it work.

There are currently no free SSL solutions that works without manually installing the providers root CA available.
